RARE Gala Raises $500,000-plus for Global Genes Project

More than 450 supporters walked the blue carpet at the first annual Tribute to Champions of Hope gala at the Balboa Bay Club on Sept. 27, presented by Global Genes | RARE Project. The estimated $500,000 raised at the event will help fund rare disease research and benefit programs that educate the community. Attendees enjoyed dinner, live music and special appearances by RARE Project advocates, including recording artist Elliott Yamin, actor Nestor Serrano and Olympic coach and gold medalist Troy Tanner. Chaired by founder Nicole Boice, the event also paid tribute to individuals who are leading the battle against rare diseases. Among those honored were Olympian Adam Nelson, Mauli Ola Foundation co-founder Charles Dunlop and biotechnology leader Henri Termeer. —A.H.
